Cliques can develop based on students’ clothing styles. Some students find that their peers judge them by what they wear. School uniforms can take the pressure off of keeping up with the latest trend. Moreover, Safety is an overwhelming concern for schools that make uniforms mandatory. School violence has become an unfortunate reality of modern life, from in-school gang wars to students getting harmed or killed for their designer clothes. Schools want to do anything they can to prevent these tragedies, and uniforms are one tool. When students wear the same uniform, gang colors are negated, and there is no incentive to steal an article of clothing. Also, parents can manage the expenditure by buying the uniforms rather spending on the other clothes and accessories. A neatly pressed and dressed uniform is the beauty of the school and also the uniform can identify a school name. Because they must wear uniforms, students are not pressured to wear expensive or trendy clothes to keep up with their peers. In addition, there is no longer an obvious difference between wealthier students and poorer students, because everyone dresses alike. Furthermore education is the last reason why I believe uniforms should be required to wear in middle school. There are many school educators who support mandatory school uniforms and believe that they improve students’ academic, social and behavioral performance. When uniforms are not mandatory course, students will rely on the latest fashion statements. This can be distracting to focused learning but it all depends on the individual students. Parents may also be concerned that the time that children spend preparing their clothes for school the next day could be better spent if uniforms were allowed. Clothing is an expression of individuality, but it also can be a distraction in the classroom. Uniforms give students a sense of belonging and encourage them to take pride in their school.

It is so severe that Abigail said on Act 1 Page 7 "Uncle, we did dance: let you tell them I confessed it-and I'll be whipped if I must be. Then Mary says on Act 1 Page 14 "Abby we've got to tell. Witchery's an hanging error†¦you'll only be whipped for dancing and other things we must tell the truth." You only can see by this how strict and severe the community is, if you dace you get whipped sixty times. You can see the society is strict and only by the few examples I have given. They gave severe punishment to anyone who broke their rules. The beliefs of the people are strong and they stand up for their beliefs. Because the existence of witches etc are mentioned in the Bible. Proctor says in Act 2 Page 57 "I have no knowledge of it: the Bible speaks of witches and I Will not deny them." Proctor is saying that he does not know if witches exist, because the Bible mentions witches so he has full belief in them. All of the community is religious and they will have total belief in the Bible. They are very quick to call each other witches or that some one is bewitched.

The researchers are able to communicate with one another from different locations as well as with the moderator. The respondents do not see these backroom communications. The problems with on-line focus groups are that the security of these sessions is not tight as with live sessions. The inability to view the respondent’s body language and the inability to quickly and effective show external stimuli in case studies. â€Å"Telephone interviewing is the best method for gathering information quickly. Introduction Early childhood educators play an important role in observing, recognizing, and supporting children’s development (Charlesworth, 2014). In this report, child E has been chose to be observed with different observing methods including running record, anecdotal record and learning story. Child E is a 3 years old boy. His father is a New Zealander, and his mother is from China. He is the only child in his family. Child E dose not speak Chinese but only English, this is due to the reason that both his parents speak English at home and his mother does not want him to learn Chinese. Child E was born in New Zealand and he dose not know much about Chinese cultural. He attends at the center five days per week. His mother often drops him in the morning around 10am and the father picks him up around 6pm. Moreover, child E has just been transferred from the toddler room to the pre-school room two weeks ago. Child E and I know each other in the toddler room. In my report, I will focus on physical and socio-emotional developments and link them with development theories and concepts. I will also discuss how these two domains inter-related to the children’s holistic development. The physical development of child E can be seen in all the observations. G. Stanley Hall and Arnold Gesell developed Maturation theory. According to the theory, maturation and growth occur together and they are interrelated. In another word, while a child is physically growing up, the nature and quality are changing as well. â€Å"Growth is what happens; maturation is how it happens† (Gordon and Browne, 2014). Furthermore, Gessell transferred his ideas of maturational process into the developmental milestones. The milestones indicate a child’s ability achievement at a certain age (Petty, 2010). The developmental milestone is a useful tool for early childhood teachers due to the reason that teachers can know what a child should achieve at specific ages. This can help teachers to plan and implement learning experiences for children. Also, the physical growth and deve lopment are closely related to children’s essential health and wellbeing  (New Zealand Tertiary College [NZTC], 2014). The physical experience supports children’s motor skills development. Using touching as an example, in observation one, child E patted the teacher and other children to get their attention. Instead of hitting or grabbing hardly, he patted gently. Child E experienced and developed the skill of controlling his motor when touching other people. Moreover, it is stressed in Te WhÄ riki (Ministry of Education [MoE], 1996), although there is a pattern of learning and development, teacher should see each child as an individual and every child follows their own rate of development. Thus, the physical development is not always predictable. To further explain this, in observation one, the action of poking shows the skill of using fine and gross motor. Child E and children J both can poke with the brush well, but their ages are different. In observation three, all the children joined the activity (musical statues) are 3 or 4 years old. They have different levels of balancing skills. In addition, Freud’s psychosexual stages also indicate deferent stages’ main development. He stressed the daily events and experience help children’s physical development in every stage (Berger, 2001). Child E is learning and developing his physical skills in every day life. Besides the theories discussed above, there are also some other factors that influence children’s physical development. Genetic make-up is the internal factors, and there are external factors include nutrition, exercise, social-cultural context, family care and health care services (NZTC, 2014). Genetic factors have impacts on many areas of development. In observation two, child E asked for more food is an example of his body’s natural needs. Social-cultural factor plays a significant role in the physical development. A child’s family vale and believe will influence the child. For instance, in observation two, child E left all the vegetables and only ate the rice and meat. Teachers already talked to his mother about this, and his mother believes the child know what to eat or not. She dose not want to encourage him to eat more vegetables. Instead, she asked teachers to give child E more meat. I also found that in the morning, when child E’s mother drops him at the center, E often has a chocolate muffin or other food high in sugar and fat as his breakfast. A current New Zealand research (Theodore, Thompson, Wall, Becroft, Robinson, Clark, Pryor, Wild & Mitchell, 2006) found that an  unhealthy diet would lead problems like diabetes, obesity, asthma and heart disease in young children, which will influence them a life-long time. Also, an unhealthy and unbalanced diet would cause undernourished problem of children. It has a huge impact on children’s physical development (Berk, 2013). The physical development is closely associated with other development domains. In terms of cognitive development, while children develop their fine and gross motor skills, the brain is stimulated and developed as well (Gordon & Browne, 2014). Take observation three as an example, while child E was finding his balancing with the motor skills, he also used his brain to control his gross and fine motor. Moreover, in the activity, he also used words like ‘move’ and ‘stop’ with his physical movements. His language learning was encouraged as well. Also, physical development inter-relate in relation to children’s social and emotional development, which will be discussed later. Social and emotional development Through all the four observations, child E showed his strong social skills and he was eager to communicate with others. A child’s social and emotional development is affected by both biological nature and the environment surrounds him or her. The different genetic factors and the other external factors influence children behave differently (NZTC, 2014). Building a positive relationship with children is essential for supporting emotions in young children. Supporting children’s emotions in a caring and social context can help the early childhood children to build a secure attachment relationship (Berk, 2013). It is stated in Te WhÄ riki (MoE, 1996), children will show their confidence only when they have built up the sense of belonging and secure at an environment. In observation one, child E chose to take a chair and set right next me. He is new to the pre-school environment, so he felt a little bit of insecure. He knows me from the toddler room a long time ago, so he feels emotionally safe and comfort around me. According to John Bowlby’s young children feels more comfortable around the person they attached to (Berger, 2001). Turning to Sigmund Freud’s theory, he considered personality as a key part of every child’s development. He  believes a newborn baby is governed by the id, which is the source of desire and motives that we born with (Berger, 2001). Erik Erikson further developed and modified Freud’s psychoanalytic perspective of development. Erikson sees the surrounding society as an important factor for every child. He believes that children develop from the interaction with surrounding environment, and a child and his/her environment have influence on each other (Berk, 2013). Most importantly, he added the parent-child relationship as a new interactive aspect. As we talked above, in the physical development part, child E’s mother’s believe obvious has an impact on child E’s eating habits. In the second observation, child E left all the vegetables in the bowl. This might be due to the reason that his parent’s allow him to choose what to eat at home. Different from both Freud’s and Erikson’s view, learning theorists emphasize the role of external forces in children’s social and emotional development. Behaviourism and social learning theory are the two most well-know learning theories. Behaviourism theory focuses on children’s behaviour and it sees culture as a key element of children’s learning. Behaviourism believes that environment can stimulate and elicit children’s responses (MacNaughton, 2003). From the four observations, child E was responding to his surrounding environment a lot. He was developing through interacting with his teachers, peers and toys in the environment. In the first observation, the teacher in pre-school room set up the painting activity to provide opportunities and encourage children to explore. Child E then chose to join the activity. E saw child J’s action and copied it. This is how child E learned from his surrounding environment. Social learning theory is closely linked with Behaviourism. It is because that socialization involves learning about how to behave in a social group. In social learning theory, children are active learners. They develop an understanding of self-awareness and social roles. Modeling, imitation, observation and self-efficacy are the main concepts of this theory. Children will then find out their abilities of doing a task. When they believe that they are good at the task, it is more likely they can overcome the difficulties. Otherwise, they could give up easily (Crain, 2000). In observation 2, child E was trying to keep balance. When he found out that balancing is little bit hard and his peers said he was out, he  stopped trying and felt emotionally uncomfortable. In the contrast, observation 3 shows that he was confident at building the station. Thus, when he needs to rebuild it, he did not give up. Same as physical development, Social and emotional development is also inter-related to children’s holistic development. It is emphasized in Te WhÄ riki (MoE, 1996) that a holistic curriculum is the development of a whole child in both individual and socio-cultural aspects. All the observations show how socio-emotional development and physical development happened in child E’s daily experience together. If E is emotional unwell, his physical development could be effect. Communication is an irreplaceable part of socio-emotional development, either verbal or non-verbal. Language skills are practiced through social experience. Cognitive domain is also influenced by socio-emotional development. Children’s brain is stimulated through interacting with others (Berger, 2001). Spiritual development is also a core part of holistic development. Children build up their sense of wondering and wisdom through social communication. Conclusion To sum up, I have discussed two developmental domains through analysing four observations. Child E has achieved a big improvement in both physical and socio-emotional developments. Forster makes his view on the British very clear. He makes some important points during these chapters and Forster reveals the British to us in a whole new light which I will be discussing. This chapter also seems to reveal to the readers the extent of Forsters dislike of the British in India. In the essay I will try to discuss the attitude which the British take against the Indians and the way in which they group together like a tribe.The first of the important chapters which these chapters make is the way in which Adela is turned into a martyr from her assault. The first hint that she has become somewhat saintly is during Mr Turtons speech to the ladies of the club Miss Derek and the victim herself he nearly breaks down and is unable to say Adelas name. The abstinence of using her name gives the effect that she has become too holy to be named. This is particularly significant in the novel for before her assault she had not been very popular within the British Community but since the assault she has become the most popular lady who they all seem to want to have an intimacy with. This only accentuated the British ladies shallow personalities. Once news of the assault on Miss Quested reaches the British they group together in a tribal manner; the ladies and men are given instruction what to do from Turton and they become secretive.The British are described as sinking themselves in their community. This shows all the British retracting into their tribe; they have no individual movements, they all move together, acting as one. This allows no individual emotion or friendships with the Indians. Turton then mutters to himself about the Indians I know what youre like at last; you shall pay for this, you shall squeal his repetition of you shall makes him sounds manic. Turton blames all the Indians, even if Aziz is guilty then its unjust to blame India as a whole. It shows the reader the echoing resentment that the British feel against the Indians. The British assume that they have privileges; Aziz is seen as guilty for having seen prostitutes in Calcutta, despite the Superintendent of Police himself having seen prostitutes in Calcutta when he was the same age as Aziz. The British assume that because Aziz Is Indian and McBryde is British McBryde is allowed to on the basis of his nationality. As Chapter eighteen ends McBryde says lord help us, the lord help us all this lets the reader know that McBryde assumes that God will be on the unjust side of the British.Throughout the two chapters Forster slowly reveals the British attitude, at first as a reader I thought that Turton was the only bigoted British. Forster describes Turton his face was white, fanatical and rather beautiful this gives good imagery to help us imagine a Turton. The description tells us that he looked fanatical; this tells us that he is uncaring and has an inhumane streak of obs ession within him he is obnoxious of how the pursuit of his fanaticism may result on other people. As the chapters continue we learn that all the British are in fact similar to Turton in their resentment of the Indians, but Turton is their leader who has the most extreme views. Fielding says to Turton I cannot believe that Dr Aziz is guilty in his need to prove the Indians wrong Turton takes this opinion as an insult Turton exclaims That that is a repetition of your insult In an aggravated form. Forster language used in the two chapters is uncomplimentary, even descriptions of the room are uncomplimentary which reiterates the sourness of the British. Whilst Turton talks of his twenty-five years experience in India Forster writes he paused and twenty-five years seemed to fill the room with their staleness and ungenerosity.The language and attitude taken towards the Indians shows that the British are simply using this opportunity to finally take all the anger built up over the years of British rule in India. On example of this is when Forster tells us about Turton He was still after the facts though the herd had decided on emotion this shows that the club do not feel the need for Aziz to be proven guilty before they come to a decision as to whether he is guilty. Turton realises this but does not say it to the British because their belief and happiness in his guilt fuels their excitement. There instinctual belief in his guiltiness shows there formality in a situation such as an assault. After an assault it is the expected reaction to gang up against the perpetrator just like the expected reaction of shock after a racist or sexist comment is made.Overall these two chapters let us know in more detail Forsters dislike of the British. We are allowed to know his feelings against racism and persecution. It also lets us know that Forster likes to subtly persuade his views and ideas onto the reader through his characters. I really admire and appreciate Forsters art as a novelist.

The Platt Amendment and U.S.-Cuba Relations The Platt Amendment set the conditions to end the United States military occupation of Cuba and was passed at the end of the Spanish-American War of 1898, which was fought over which country should oversee the governing of the island. The amendment was intended to create a path to Cuban independence while still allowing the U.S. to have an influence in its domestic and international politics. It was in effect from February 1901 until May 1934.   Historical Background Prior to the Spanish-American War, Spain had control over Cuba and was profiting greatly from its natural resources. There are two major theories as to why the U.S. entered war: promoting democracy abroad and gaining control of the island’s resources. First, the War of 1898 was popular with Americans because the government promoted it as a liberation war. Cubans and the well-known liberation force Cuba Libre began revolting against Spanish rule much earlier, in the 1880s. Additionally, the U.S. was already involved in conflicts with Spain throughout the Pacific in the Philippines, Guam, and Puerto Rico, citing the European nation as an imperialist and undemocratic power. Therefore, some historians and politicians theorize that the war intended to promote democracy and extend the reach of the Free World, and the subsequent Platt Amendment was intended to provide a pathway to Cuban sovereignty. However, keeping Cuba in the U.S. sphere of influence had great economic and political benefits. In the 1980s, the U.S. was suffering one of the greatest economic depressions in its history. The island had tons of cheap tropical agricultural products that Europeans and Americans were willing to pay high prices for. Further, Cuba is only 100 miles from the southernmost tip of Florida, so keeping a friendly regime protected the nation’s national security. Using this perspective, other historians believe that the war, and by extension the Platt Amendment, was always about increasing American influence, not Cuban liberation. At the end of the war, Cuba wanted independence and self-government, whereas the United States wanted Cuba to be a protectorate, a region with a mix of local autonomy and foreign oversight. The initial compromise came in the form of the Teller Amendment. This stated that no country can permanently hold Cuba and a free and independent government will take over. This amendment was not popular in the U.S. because it seemingly barred the nation’s annexation of the island. Though President William McKinley signed the amendment, the administration still sought annexation. The Platt Amendment, signed in February 1901, followed the Teller Amendment to give the United States more oversight of Cuba. What the Platt Amendment Says The Platt Amendment’s primary stipulations were that Cuba became unable to enter into treaties with any foreign nation other than the U.S., the U.S. has a right to intervene if it is believed to be in the island’s best interest, and all conditions of the amendment must be accepted in order to end military occupation. While this was not the annexation of Cuba and there was a local government in place, the United States had much control over the island’s international relationships and domestic production of agricultural goods. As the United States continued to expand its influence throughout Latin American and the Caribbean, Latin Americans began to refer to this style of government oversight as â€Å"plattismo.† Long-Term Impact of the Platt Amendment The Platt Amendment and military occupation of Cuba is one of the leading causes of later conflict between the U.S. and Cuba. Opposition movements continued to expand across the island, and McKinley’s successor, Theodore Roosevelt, put a U.S.-friendly dictator named Fulgencio Batista in charge in hopes of countering the revolutionaries. Later, President William Howard Taft went as far as to say that independence would be completely out of the question if the Cubans continued to rebel. This only increased the anti-U.S. sentiment and propelled Fidel Castro to the Cuban Presidency with a communist-friendly regime after the Cuban Revolution.   Essentially, the legacy of the Platt Amendment is not one of American liberation, as the McKinley administration had hoped. His outstanding work includes the discovery of the method of least squares, the discovery of non-Euclidean geometry, and important contributions to the theory of numbers.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Born in Brunswick, Germany, on April 30, 1777, Johann Friedrich Carl Gauss showed early and unmistakable signs of being an extraordinary youth. As a child prodigy, he was self taught in the fields of reading and arithmetic. Recognizing his talent, his youthful studies were accelerated by the Duke of Brunswick in 1792 when he was provided with a stipend to allow him to pursue his education.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In 1795, he continued his mathematical studies at the University of Gà ¶ ttingen. In 1799, he obtained his doctorate in absentia from the University of Helmstedt, for providing the first reasonably complete proof of what is now called the fundamental theorem of algebra. He stated that: Any polynomial with real coefficients can be factored into the product of real linear and/or real quadratic factors.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  At the age of 24, he published Disquisitiones arithmeticae, in which he formulated systematic and widely influential concepts and methods of number theory -- dealing with the relationships and properties of integers. Using number theory, Gauss proposed an algebraic solution to the geometric problem of creating a polygon of n sides. His methods, which he describes in his book Theoria Motus Corporum Coelestium, are still in use today. This is still a situation we see today where children would play with other children regardless of their background but as they grew up, society puts the stereotypes in their heads and saw the world differently, in which Baldwin would grow up to see the world different as well. If there is a revolvi ng theme around this story, it is the theme of birth. In the beginning, there was a physical birth of James Baldwin’s sibling, moments after his father died. This could metaphorically translate as his father’s legacy being carried down through another child. James Baldwin Notes of a Native Son Analysis The ending was a birth of an idea, of how his father’s death and all the experiences Baldwin had encountered translated into an idea of fighting the injustice he was receiving. One word that stood out to me in the passage was perdition. Baldwin’s father claims that Baldwin’s naà ¯ve perspective of the whites was going to send him to perdition. Perdition has an extremely strong meaning, and in the Christian context, it is used to describe people who chose to turn away from God and thus cannot be saved nor forgiven, in a way being sent to the eternal pits of hell. Baldwin’s father is sending out a warning of what is yet to come for Baldwin, who would see how his view about the world will be changed forever by his life in New Jersey and that one American Diner situation. Baldwin would see the world the same way his father had seen, with the same bitterness his father carried till his death. Baldwin said that he had contracted a blind fever, which I believe t hat the blind fever was a metaphorical way of describing the emotional build-up of the treatment he received as a black man.
